A separate privacy policy is published for the iOS version of the application.

5. Android Permissions We May Request

The Android application requests only the permissions required to deliver school communication features. Runtime permissions are requested at the time the related feature is used, and may be granted or denied through the Android permission prompt.

Android Permission Type Why It Is Used
INTERNET Normal Securely communicate with the school's servers, retrieve school content, send messages, and upload permitted attachments.
ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE Normal Detect whether the device has network connectivity before attempting to synchronize or retrieve information.
POST_NOTIFICATIONS Runtime (Android 13+) Display notifications about homework, resources, announcements, feedback, and chat messages.
VIBRATE Normal Provide a vibration alert with notifications, where supported by the device.
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED Normal Restore notification delivery registration after the device restarts.
FOREGROUND_SERVICE Normal Where used, complete short-running tasks such as attachment upload or message delivery reliably.
READ_MEDIA_IMAGES Runtime (Android 13+) Only when a user chooses to attach an image to school content or a chat message.
READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE Runtime (Android 12 and below) Legacy equivalent used for selecting a permitted document or image to attach.
CAMERA Runtime (optional) Only if the user chooses to capture a new photo for a profile picture or an attachment.

File, media, and camera access is used only at the moment a user actively selects or captures a file. The application does not scan, index, or upload media in the background.

Permissions can be reviewed or revoked at any time in Settings → Apps → Silaty Portal → Permissions. Revoking a permission may disable the related feature but does not otherwise prevent use of the application.

6. Push Notifications

Silaty Portal uses push notifications to inform users when school-related content or communications are available. Notifications may be triggered when an administrator or authorized staff member publishes homework, resources, announcements, feedback, or sends a chat message.

Notifications are delivered through Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM), Google's notification service for Android. To enable this, the application registers a device notification token with the service. Notification behavior can be controlled at any time in Settings → Notifications or in the application's notification settings on the device.

7. Chat and Attachments

Silaty Portal provides a chat facility for communication between authorized school users and parents. Messages may contain text and permitted attachments such as images or documents.

Chat content and attachments are processed only to provide the communication service, maintain conversation history, deliver messages, and support the school's legitimate administrative purposes.

8. Password Reset and Account Security

Users may use the application's password reset or password change functionality. Authentication information is used only to verify the user's account and maintain secure access to the application.

On Android, session and authentication tokens are stored in the application's private storage sandbox, which is not accessible to other applications on the device. Users should keep their login credentials confidential and should not share passwords with other persons.

9. Third-Party Services

The Android application uses a limited number of third-party services that support application functionality, hosting, notifications, storage, security, or diagnostics.

Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM)

Firebase Cloud Messaging is used to deliver push notifications to user devices. Firebase may process device and technical information, including the notification token and Firebase installation identifier, as necessary to provide the notification service.

Google Play Services

Google Play services components on the device support notification delivery, application integrity, and security functionality on Android.

Google Play Store

The application is distributed through Google Play. Google may collect installation, update, and crash information independently of the application in accordance with its own policies.

More information about Google's privacy practices is available in Google's Privacy Policy .

11. Data Sharing

We do not sell users' personal information. Information is shared only as necessary to operate the school communication service.

  • With the participating school and its authorized personnel
  • With intended parents or recipients when school content is published to them
  • With service providers that support application functionality, where necessary
  • With notification providers such as Firebase Cloud Messaging for notification delivery
  • When required by applicable law, regulation, legal process, or a valid governmental request

12. Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information processed through the application. Data transmitted between the application and supported servers uses secure communication over HTTPS/TLS.

Application data stored on the device is kept in the private application sandbox provided by Android. Access to school information and communication features is restricted to authorized users based on the school's access controls. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

13. Data Retention

Information is retained for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the school service, maintain communication records, meet school administrative requirements, resolve disputes, maintain security, or comply with applicable legal obligations.

The applicable school may determine retention requirements for school records and user accounts. Requests relating to school records or account deletion may need to be directed to the relevant school or authorized administrator.

14. User Rights and Choices

Depending on applicable law and the school's policies, users may have rights regarding their personal information, including requesting access, correction, or deletion of information.

  • Manage notifications in Settings → Notifications → Silaty Portal
  • Manage permissions in Settings → Apps → Silaty Portal → Permissions
  • Clear locally stored application data in Settings → Apps → Silaty Portal → Storage
  • Uninstall the application at any time from the device or Google Play

For school-managed account information, users may need to contact their school administrator.

15. Account and Data Deletion

Users may request deletion of their account and associated personal information by emailing info@orisonsoftware.com from the address registered with the school, or by contacting their school administrator.

Because accounts are created and controlled by the participating school, deletion requests are verified with the school before being processed. Certain school records may be retained where required by the school's policies or by applicable law. Uninstalling the application removes locally stored data from the device but does not by itself delete a school-managed account.

16. Children's Privacy

Silaty Portal is intended for authorized school staff, administrators, and other authorized adult users. It is not designed or marketed for children, is not enrolled in the Google Play Families program, and is not intended to be used independently by children to create accounts.

School-related information concerning students may be processed as part of the school's communication and educational services. Such information is handled according to the school's policies and applicable privacy laws.

17. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to the application, our services, or applicable legal requirements. When material changes are made, the updated policy will be published on this page and the "Last Updated" date will be revised.
